Overview
The Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) is the qualifying exam for individuals seeking to become Assistant Professors in universities, colleges, and other higher education institutions across Karnataka. It is held for 33 subjects, and qualifying is equivalent to clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET), but its benefits are limited to the state of Karnataka.

KSET Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the KSET exam, you must have a Master's Degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university, or be in the final year of your Master's program with results awaited. A minimum of 55% (50% for SC, ST, OBC, Transgender, and PwD candidates) is required. There is no age limit, but you must appear for the exam in the subject of your Master's degree.
Educational Qualifications
· Master's Degree:
You must have completed a Master's degree or an equivalent examination in a relevant subject from a UGC-recognized institution.
· Master's Degree in Progress:
Candidates pursuing their first or second year of Master's Degree or whose final year examination results are awaited are also eligible. Degree Completion:
Those appearing for the final year must provide proof of passing the Master's degree with the required marks within two years of the KSET result date to avoid disqualification. Academic Marking General Category: Candidates must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in their Master's degree.
· Reserved Categories: Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (Cat-I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB), Transgender, and PwD categories need to score at least 50% marks.
General Criteria
· There is no upper age limit to appear for the KSET exam.· Holders of a Ph.D. degree whose Master's degree examinations were completed by September 19, 1991, are eligible for a 5% relaxation in the minimum marks. If admitted provisionally, you must submit proof of your Master's degree passing within two years of the KSET result.
KSET Exam Pattern
The KSET (Karnataka State Eligibility Test) exam comprises two compulsory objective-type papers (MCQs) held in a single session over 3 hours, with no negative marking. Paper 1 is a general paper on teaching and research aptitude, featuring 50 questions worth 100 marks. Paper 2 is subject-specific, with 100 questions worth 200 marks. Each question is worth 2 marks, resulting in a total of 150 questions for 300 marks.
