History

On October 1, 1954, the first 200 students began their studies at the only faculty - medical. The institute's formative years were difficult. As part of the patronage, the country's medical universities sent educational and scientific literature, dummies, drugs, microscopes and much more. However, the educational process from the very first days followed the full program of medical universities, and the first student scientific circles were organized at the departments. The result of their work was the first institute student conference in May 1955.The teaching staff in the first academic year consisted of 32 people, of which one - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor M.M. Trostanetsky, founder of the Department of Normal Anatomy, 6 candidates of medical sciences: P.P. Rakhtanov - the first rector and founder of the Department of General Surgery, M.Kh. Bakhtiyarov - Head of the Department of Marxism - Leninism, G.P. Gaenko - Head of the Department of Biology, A.N. Lieven - Head of the Department of Histology, I.M. Turner and B.N. Markin - Assistants of the Department of Normal Anatomy. Despite the difficulties of the organizational period, the staff of the institute, already from the first academic year, became involved in the work of practical healthcare: thematic seminars, clinical and pathological conferences were regularly held, new methods of diagnosis and treatment were introduced. The topics of scientific work were closely related to the problems of regional pathology: the epidemiology of parasitic diseases, the vitamin resources of the region, the healing properties of brine and mud of the Big Yarovoye Lake, ionization of the air in the resorts of Belokurikha and Lebyazhye, problems of hematology, epidemiology of endemic goiter and much more. Since 1958, the training of clinical residents has begun.

1960 was the year of the first graduation of Altai medical doctors for the medical institute. The region received 194 doctors, including 12 excellent students. In 1960, a postgraduate course was opened at the ASMI. In the same year V.S. Semennikov, from the first graduation of the ASMI defended his Ph.D. thesis. A major event and recognition of the maturity of the university was the receipt in 1967 of the right to defend a dissertation for the degree of candidate of medical sciences. The shortage of pediatricians in the region led to the opening of the pediatric faculty in 1966 (the first dean was A.A. Vykhodtseva (doctor of medical sciences, professor), etc. The 1967-1968 academic year is considered the year of the beginning of the movement of the SSO AGMI. The geography of work of the medical center "Medic" is significant. These are the Shikotan Island and elevators in Sakhalin and Kamchatka, Evenkia and the dam in Kosh-Agach, the Kulundinsky Canal and railways in Western Siberia. This is a public student movement "Institute with their own hands" and specialized medical teams in the regions of the region. The dynamic development of the Altai Territory, the growth of the population continued to make their demands on the development of health care. The next step was the problems of the regional pharmacy chain. And in 1975 the institute was replenished with one more faculty - pharmaceutical (the first dean - associate professor V.M.Bryukhanov). In 1980, the region received 89 first Altai pharmacists. Its graduates E.M. Sanarov, L.M. Fedoseeva and E.F. Sharakhova are heads of departments at ASMU. Professor N.I. Chernobrovin - director of the Barnaul pharmaceutical plant. drugs. In 1998, the correspondence department was created at the Faculty of Pharmacy (Professor A.V. Ivanov). Altai State Medical University is building a strategy for training specialists according to the principle "Throughout life", for this purpose in 1986 the faculty of advanced training and retraining of personnel was organized (the first dean was Professor Ya.N. Shoikhet). In 1993, a post-graduate training center was formed and a certification system for medical specialists was introduced. In 1990, the first students were accepted by the Faculty of Dentistry (dean, associate professor V.A.Popov), in 1995, giving the region the first Altai doctors dentists. Since 1993, students from near and far abroad began to study at the university, a faculty of foreign students was organized (dean - associate professor A.V. Aladyshev). In 2001, the Faculty of Medicine and Prevention was opened (E.A. Bobrovsky), and in 2004 the Faculty of Higher Nursing Education (Dean S.V. Tyutyunnikov). At each stage of the development of the university, it was headed by experienced and authoritative rectors: 1954-1957 - Associate Professor Petr Petrovich Rakhtanov; 1957-1964 - Associate Professor Fedor Mitrofanovich Kolomiytsev 1964-1979 - Professor Vitaly Nikolaevich Kryukov; 1979-1988 g. - Professor Gervaziev Viktor Borisovich; 1988-2014 - Professor Valery M. Bruchanov; from 2014-2019 - Saldan Igor Petrovich, from 2019 to the present time acting rector of the ASMU Irina Igorevna Sheremetyeva.

University status

In 1994, the Institute received the status of a university, and the next year a council was opened with the right to defend doctoral dissertations.

Today Altai State Medical University is one of the leading higher medical educational institutions in Western Siberia. More than 4500 students study at the university, including 337 foreign students. The educational activity of the university is carried out at 38 clinical bases, 130 bases of educational and industrial practice in medical organizations. In 2016, a modern, high-tech simulation center was opened for students, and subsequently for the retraining of doctors. The presence of the center will improve the quality of training of specialists. The program of academic mobility for students and teachers began to develop actively. The first exchange took place in 2015 with the Republic of Kazakhstan. We were visited by 15 residents, we also sent 15 best students. More than twenty university teachers gave lectures, reports and seminars in Russia and abroad. Six foreign scientists (Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan) delivered lectures and workshops for students of ASMU. The personnel policy of the university is aimed at attracting high-level specialists from practical healthcare and retaining the staff. The teaching staff at the university is represented by: 2 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2 honored scientists of the Russian Federation, 9 honored workers of the higher school of the Russian Federation, 28 honored doctors of the Russian Federation, 96 doctors of sciences and 239 candidates. The degree of degree of university teachers is 77%. For the first time in 2016, a scientific and educational complex of a medical profile was created together with the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2015, ASMU, according to the conditions for obtaining a quality education, the demand for graduates,ASMU is a university for a healthy lifestyle. 12 student medical teams work in the regions of the region. The university is developing a volunteer movement, students annually participate in the interregional patriotic action "Snow landing". 

The best student construction brigade of the Altai Territory is the SSO "Comrade" of the ASMU. Altai State Medical University, having celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2014, looks to the future with confidence.
