Kursk State Medical University

KSMU is the largest educational institution in the region. At present, about 19 thousand people study at the university, of which more than 7,000 are students receiving higher education; about 900 - students of the secondary vocational education system; over 500 - residents and postgraduate students; more than 10,000 - health care and higher education specialists enrolled in additional education programs. Almost 1000 applicants become students of the medical university every year. Education, depending on the profile of the specialty and the form of education, is carried out at 12 faculties of KSMU according to 78 basic educational programs.Kursk State Medical University is one of the largest and oldest universities in Kursk and the leading medical educational organizations in Russia. It is rightfully considered the educational, scientific and cultural center of the Black Earth Region.

The Kursk Medical Institute, founded in 1935 and the Medical University since 1994, has trained more than 35 thousand doctors, pharmacists and other health professionals.

Kursk Medical University has nine educational buildings equipped with educational and scientific equipment, six comfortable student dormitories, united in a campus. As it happened historically, the department is the main scientific and pedagogical unit of the university. Currently, the university has 65 departments. Clinical departments were created and are located on the basis of medical institutions of the regional center. The total number of the teaching staff participating in the educational process and research work at the departments is 745 people. Of these, 133 doctors and 408 candidates of sciences.

Since January 2012, the Medical and Pharmaceutical College has become part of the university. The unification of the university with the college allows solving the problems of improving the quality of training of specialists and the rational use of resources in a single educational, scientific and industrial university complex.

Keeping the best traditions, the university is constantly developing, demonstrating pedagogical skills, scientific research and creative initiative. At the same time, traditions grow into new forms of activity, nourish them with vitality, in particular, through the succession of generations of the teaching staff.

The goal of the university throughout its history was a high level of education, maintaining a balance between the educational process and the development of science. The modernization of the educational process in accordance with the requirements of the time began in the early 70s. XX century Modern teaching methods have been introduced and are constantly being improved in the educational process: problem lectures, lectures-dialogues, computer technologies for teaching and knowledge control, multimedia tools, business games, various types of testing, a point-rating system for assessing the quality of mastering basic educational programs. The main conditions for the training of highly qualified specialists are the professionalism of teachers, a modern research and training base, the implementation of the concept of informatization of the educational process. Much attention is paid to the practical training of doctors, pharmacists and other specialists. The skills and abilities necessary for doctors of various specialties are formed both at the Center for Accreditation and Simulation Training, and through direct contact with patients at clinical departments and during practical training.

The high quality of training is confirmed by the success of the students of Kursk Medical University at the All-Russian Olympiads of Professional Skills. In 2017, the final of the XXVI All-Russian Olympiad in Surgery named after V.I. Academician I.M. Perelman. The KSMU team, consisting of students of medical, pediatric and international faculties, represented the Central Federal District and took part in all nineteen nominations. In four nominations, students of our university became prize-winners, and at the XXVII semi-finals of the Central Federal District (Yaroslavl) of the same Olympiad, they became winners in four nominations. In the I All-Russian Olympiad for students in traumatology and orthopedics, held on the basis of the Ural State University, the KSMU team won the diploma “For the best solution of situational problems”. One of the achievements of our university is the victory of the team led by the head of the center for accreditation and simulation training, associate professor I. I. Dolgina, in the V International Olympiad in emergency skills "Golden MedSkill - 2017". More than 350 students, representing 51 teams of medical universities in Russia, China, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, took part in the Olympiad. The diploma of the Grand Prix of the winner of the IV Interregional Forum of Dental Students of the Central Federal District of Russia "Dental Heart of Russia-2017" was awarded to a student of the Faculty of Dentistry D. Ignatieva.According to the license for educational activities in KSMU, training in 33 residency specialties, in 266 advanced training and professional retraining programs is possible. For the implementation of the project on continuing education, an electronic information and educational environment on the Moodle platform - the portal "Continuing Medical Education", has been created on the KSMU website. The portal implements programs using distance educational resources and the ability to control the development of electronic modules. Own video lectures and interactive materials of the departments of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education are used as electronic educational resources.

To date, more than 400 residents are mastering programs at the clinical bases of the departments of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education. It should be noted that annually more than 1000 thousand employees of medical and pharmaceutical organizations are trained in advanced training and professional retraining programs.

The achievements of the university in organizing the educational process in recent years have received positive assessments. By the decision of the independent public council "European Quality", the university was included in the list of the top 100 universities in Russia. According to the results of the Interregional Competition, KSMU was recognized as one of the best universities in the Central Federal District with the right to use the “Reliable Reputation” logo. According to the monitoring results of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Kursk State Medical University annually confirms its effectiveness.

Based on rating studies, KSMU is a member of the Unified National Register of Leading Educational Institutions of the Russian Federation for 2017.

The RAEX rating agency (Expert RA) has compiled the sixth annual rating of Russian universities - 2017. 15 medical universities of the country, including Kursk State Medical University, entered the top 100 best universities in Russia.

According to the results of the monitoring of university graduate employment centers, conducted by the Coordination and Analytical Center for Assisting the Employment of Graduates of Vocational Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, in 2016 KSMU entered the TOP-5 of the best centers of medical universities in Russia.

Students of Kursk State Medical University receive professions that are socially significant, in demand by society and the state, and are so necessary for protecting public health. Most graduates receive a medical degree. In the Oath of a doctor, there are the following words: "Receiving the high title of a doctor and starting my professional activity, I solemnly swear: honestly fulfill my medical duty, devote my knowledge and skills to the prevention and treatment of diseases, preservation and strengthening of human health ...".
