Manipur College is the third oldest premier college in the state of Manipur. It is located at Singjamei Chingamakha, about two to three kilometers away from the heart of city. This educational institution came into being after much hype and initiation by some serious social minded individuals. Then with the subsequent formation of the governing body with a view to look after the affairs of the college, it was officially established way back in 1958, in the month of August. Since then it has been relentlessly continuing its service to the people in the field of higher education and successfully completed its fiftieth golden years in August 2008. It is a matter of great privileges to organize and celebrate such mega event of golden jubilee with much fanfare. It is an institution worthy of honour and praise where memorable events, achievements and UGC NAAC accreditation have adorned this institution. Thus, throughout the long chequered history of fifty years, Manipur College has played its role sincerely as a fore runner in disseminating quality education in the state. The college has continued to move forward by bits and pieces in term of teaching faculty and physical infrastructural development to take its present shape.
As of now, there are more than 60 regular teachers and 22 part-time teachers, with not less than 14 department/ disciplines in both Science and Arts stream. Among these, the department of History is one of them.
